“ Who’s ready to make their very own pizza! What about a pizza face? Let’s have some fun!”

Turn on your creativity with your child by baking a pizza together. Use different shapes and tastes to create a pizza face.

Process

1. Combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast and kosher salt in the bowl of a stand mixer and combine.

2.While the mixer is running, add the water and 2 tablespoons of the oil and beat until the dough forms into a ball.

3.Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a smooth, firm ball.

4.Grease a large bowl with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil, add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, about 1 hour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Cover each with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes.

5. Roll out as you desire and add toppings to make a face!

6. Bake for 15-20 minutes looking for crust to turn golden brown.

** Likewise, feel free to use premade dough from the store or your own recipe.

*** Pita or Focaccia bread or Naan Bread also works as a base

child role

  • Help locate and gather kitchen supplies

  • Begin to help sort, wash, and cut ingredients

  • Help measure and pour ingredients into mixing bowls

  • Make choices for what foods would make a great eye, nose, ears, mouth, eyebrows, lips, etc...

  • Enjoy your pizza! Yum!

Parent role

  • Encourage your child to help collect and gather ingredients around the kitchen

    1. Direct them in sorting ingredients

    2. Prepare a method for them to wash ingredients

    3. Allow them to roll and experiment with the texture of the dough (even break off a piece that they can exclusively ‘play’ with)

    4. Provide direction for rolling out dough and placing toppings

    5. Encourage them and praise them for however much they can contribute to

    6. Invite them to enjoy the fruits of their labour!

*Much of this can be child-led with consistent instruction on next steps.
