Can you help your adult make some delicious cookies?”

Encourage your child to assist you in baking some delicious cookies. Have her/him get their favourite apron, baking shirt and help you gather supplies for some baking bonding.

instructions

  1. Combine sugar, oil and cocoa in a large bowl. Beat until well blended.

  2. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

  3. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Slowly add to cocoa mixture, beating well.

  4. Cover and refrigerate dough until it is firm enough to handle. If you are wanting them to firm up faster, like me, stick the covered dough in the freezer until firm enough to handle.

  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a cookie sheet.

  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls then roll them in powdered sugar. Place on cookie sheet about 2 inches apart from each other.

  7. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes

ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar

  • ¾ cup oil

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2⅓ cup flour

  • 2 tsp. baking powder

  • ½ tsp. salt

  • powdered sugar for rolling

child role

  • Get prepared to help your parent/adult bake some cookies.

  • Wash your hands and get your favourite baking outfit on.

  • Assist your adult in gathering the supplies. Hang out tight to those ingredients!

  • Your adult will read out the instructions and help you fill up different ingredients. Be a great helper in pouring and stirring.

  • Help your parent roll the cookie into a ball and roll them into sugar. What fun!

  • Taste test the cookie to make sure it tastes good!

Parent role

Invite your child to help you bake cookies. We know baking with kids is a bit different but it is such a great learning experience for little kiddos and an important lifeskill!

Help them gather supplies

Read out instructions and encourage them to help as much as the can. Maybe they can measure and/or pour in ingredients!

Teach them baking safety

If the time is right, give them the job of taste tasting!
